The third sergeant major of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB), Dony José Yépez Rodríguez, belonging to Zone Command No. 61, died in a traffic accident that occurred on the Ciudad Bolívar-El Tigre national highway.
The incident was reported this Friday morning at the Citizen Attention Point (PAC) La Carreta.
More than 15 soldiers were injured in the incident. Most hold the rank of second sergeant and were recent graduates of Class 116 of the GNB.
According to reports, the officials were returning from the graduation ceremony that took place at the National Guard School «Col. Leonardo Infante, in Punta de Mata, Monagas state.
The versions indicate that when they arrived in Ciudad Bolivar they boarded a white Ford cargo truck, without license plates, driven by José Gregorio Carnieles Rodríguez, who was also injured along with another civilian whose identity is unknown.
Apparently, the driver lost control and hit a Kodia van, license plate A85AK4G, which would have had an accident on the road.
Municipal Fire Commissions of Ciudad Bolívar, National and State Police of the Independencia municipality, in Anzoátegui, attended the case.
Some of the injured were transferred to the Ruiz y Páez University Hospital Complex, in Ciudad Bolívar, and others entered the Soledad care unit.
