Solar water heater: This way you will get a double subsidy

Applications for the voucher subsidy program to replace energy-consuming electric water heaters with new, modern solar technology will probably open before Easter, specifically before Mega Week.

For the submission, the platform at allazothermosifona.gov.gr will be used, as everything seems to indicate.

A basic condition for the voucher subsidy of 500 to 900 euros is the existence of an electric water heater with a capacity of ≥ 40 liters, while for each new solar water heater that is subsidized, the old one must be recycled through an approved alternative waste management system and related equipment at a recycling agency.

The main objectives of the program, after all, are the saving of financial resources from the reduction of energy consumption, as well as the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

What you will need to apply
As noted in the published guide, Natural Persons wishing to participate in the Program submit a funding application through the Unified Digital Portal of the Public Administration (gov.gr).

In order to submit the application, the prior identification of the applicant is required using the personal codes – credentials of the General Secretariat of Public Administration Information Systems of the Ministry of Digital Governance (taxisnet).

After identification, the applicant submits an application stating:

  • the 11-digit electricity supply number of the house in which the water heater to be replaced is installed,
  • that a Solar Water Heater can be installed in his residence and there is no restriction by operating regulations (e.g. apartment building regulations, building operating regulations, etc.),
  • the presence or absence of a disabled member in the family, so that cross-checking can be done on a case-by-case basis with data from the Disability Certification Center (KEPA) or alternatively, through the presentation of a corresponding opinion or certificate from a disability certification health committee or other competent authority, which according to the law still exercises its powers,
  • a unique mobile phone number that will be certified by sending a one-time code (OTP), which will be used after any approval of the financing application to send the voucher code, but also for any related communication with the beneficiary. If available, a personal e-mail account can be additionally declared.

The applicant also confirms the information automatically obtained from third-party services and State registers related to his application.

The financing application is processed based on:

(1) the data declared-provided by the applicant,

(2) the electronic cross-checks with information from third-party services and State registers, aimed at confirming the eligibility criteria and calculating the selection/ranking criteria of the specific application.

Who can apply?
As noted in the pre-publication of the program guide, applications are submitted by individual Natural Persons who were born before January 1, 2006 and reside permanently in Greece.

In order to submit an application, a Natural Person must:

  • Must have a Tax Registry Number, as well as valid access codes to AADE’s online services, through which it can be identified.
  • To have submitted an income tax return (E1) in the tax year 2021, either as an OBLIGATOR of an individual or joint return, or indirectly as “SPOUSE/SPO1” in the case of a joint return. The related statement should have been cleared.

Each Natural Person may submit a single application concerning a primary or secondary residence, for which the following conditions are cumulatively met:

  • It is the main or secondary residence of the applicant (owned, rented or let).
  • It has an active, domestic (and non-shared) electricity supply, through which the applicant’s residence is identified.

Attention! It is not possible to submit more than one application for the same residence, from different natural persons.

OTHERS: In the cases of families/households with a primary and secondary residence, it is possible to submit applications for both residences (Primary and Secondary), as long as the applications are submitted by different Natural Persons (Obligee and, Spouse/SPO) of the same household.

This means that it is possible for a “double” subsidy – both in the main residence and in the holiday home – if the applications are made by different members of the same household.

Who are cut from the subsidy?

  • Beneficiaries with an average annual income per family member exceeding 30,000 euros are not eligible.
  • It is not possible to apply for households that have applied for or joined another energy saving program, such as for example “Save – Self-Employed” or “Save 2021”.
  • Beneficiaries (Natural Persons submitting the application) who had submitted an income tax return in the reference year (2021) as residents abroad are not eligible.
  • Beneficiaries are not eligible, who in the reference year (2021) submitted a joint income tax return (specifically as Debtor and Spouse/MSO), if the other member or dependent child of the return was a foreign resident in that year.
  • Dependent members who do not submit an autonomous declaration (i.e. are not obliged to make their own individual declaration) may not apply for participation in the Program.
