Solar panels hidden in tiles

In Italy, the Dyaqua company manufactures terracotta tiles whose surface, made of a special polymer, “absorbs” the photons which then supply the photovoltaic cells they contain. An interesting innovation to limit the visual impact of solar panels and allow historic buildings, which are particularly greedy because of their old architecture, to benefit from carbon-free energy. The company is currently developing other materials that will conceal photovoltaic panels in the future, such as stone, wood or concrete.

This is one of the rare cooperation projects with Russia that has not yet been brought to a halt by the war in Ukraine. On February 13, the site of the Iter nuclear fusion reactor in Cadarache (Bouches-du-Rhône), received one of the six ring-shaped magnets surrounding the tokamak. This had been sent by Russia from a shipyard in Saint Petersburg at the beginning of November 2022.

An amphibious drone with multiple potential applications

The TJ-FlyingFish drone, invented by several Chinese and Hong Kong universities, evolves both underwater and in the air and can easily move from one environment to another. Submerged, it has a flight time of 40 minutes, while it can only fly 6 minutes on a single charge out of water. It might nevertheless prove to be particularly useful for carrying out rescue and search operations on land and under water or inspections of infrastructures that are difficult to access.
