Former Premier League player and Ivorian international Sol Bamba has died.
This is announced by the Turkish club Adanaspor, for which Bamba was the coach.
He was 39 years old.
Bamba became the coach of the Turkish club this summer and it was his first assignment as a head coach.
The club signs X that Bamba fell ill before yesterday’s match against Manisa Football Club.
“He was taken directly to Manisa Celal Bayar University Hospital where he unfortunately lost his life. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family,” writes the club.
Bamba turned 39 years old.

Bamba, who made 46 caps for Ivory Coast, rose to prominence during his time in British football. Among other things, he played for Leicester, Leeds and Cardiff. He was also assistant coach of the Welsh club in 2023.

“Everyone in Leeds is devastated to hear that former Leeds captain Sol Bamba has passed away. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends during this tragic time. Rest in peace, Sol, you will always be in our hearts,” writes Leeds on X.
“We are devastated to hear that Sol Bamba has passed away at the age of 39. Our thoughts go out to Sol’s family and friends during this time. Rest in peace, Sol,” writes Middlesbrough which was Bamba’s last club as a player.
Had “Svennis” as a trainer
When Bamba played for Leicester, he did so with Sven-Göran “Svennis” Eriksson as coach.
“Svennis” was the one who took Bamba to Leicester and in connection with “Svennis” died on Monday tweeted Bamba paid his respects and expressed his sorrow.
“He was not only an outstanding person, but also the best coach I ever had, who inspired me on my journey both as a player and as a coach,” wrote Bamba.
