This evening, as part of the match between Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart, there were serious riots in front of the northwest curve before the game started, in which numerous people were injured. A special commission was then set up at police headquarters.

At around 5:45 p.m., before the game even started, Eintracht Frankfurt supporters attacked the security service during an access control in front of Block 40 to the northwest curve. They also attacked rescue workers on site. When the security service then called the police for help, a large number of members of Frankfurt’s risk fan scene spontaneously showed solidarity and massively attacked the emergency services. Among other things, there were a large number of targeted throwings of bottles, pyrotechnics and heavy iron bars.

The police used simple physical force, pepper spray and batons to ward off the attacks and stopped the riots by immediately calling in additional emergency services. Officials from Rhineland-Palatinate and the federal police supported the Hessian police.

The survey of injuries and damage began in the evening. On the police side, a medium double-digit number of officers were injured as a result of the riots caused by the violent perpetrators. According to current knowledge, four colleagues had to be treated in hospital. The attackers also damaged two rescue vehicles and injured a service dog. In addition, an as yet unknown number of stewards, rescue workers and stadium visitors also suffered injuries.

The police arrested several suspects during the attacks.

Police Chief Stefan Müller was very affected by the events and especially the number of injuries. That evening he set up a special commission “SOKO2511” to comprehensively and promptly clarify the events at Block 40. SOKO2511 will pool all the necessary police resources and competencies and begin its work on Sunday, November 26th, 2023. Among other things, secured video material is evaluated and witnesses are interviewed. Investigators with knowledge of the scene and special super-recognizers are also used.

The police are investigating, among other things, serious breaches of the peace and physical attacks on law enforcement officers.

Witnesses who took video or photo recordings of the attacks behind Block 40 are asked to submit them to upload.
