SOGATRA is dying, according to its agents –

A front of seven (7) unions in the sector, representing administrative agents, technicians and drivers was formed on Wednesday to challenge the transitional authorities on the situation deemed worrying by the Gabonese Transport Company. They are calling for the redeployment of the vehicle fleet and a much better functioning of the first transport company in Gabon.

Union officials have spoken out following the numerous problems and dysfunctions at the origin of the current difficulties of the Gabonese Transport Company (SOGATRA), whose vehicle fleet is almost obsolete.

“The State regularly rents buses to SOGATRA for the free transport of populations and SOGATRA receives a subsidy in return. It is precisely this money that allows us to buy spare parts, repair the buses and ensure the regular operation of the company. It so happens that since 1is January 2024, this grant has not been paid out”regretted the president of the National Transport Union (SYNATRA), Tance Noël Obanza.

The union leaders are clearly requesting the intervention of the highest authorities of the transition, in particular the president of the CTRI, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma, to help with the rehabilitation of SOGATRA, given the impasse in the steps taken with the company’s general management and ministerial supervision, according to the president of the Autonomous Union of Transport Sector Workers (SYATRAT), Mr. Ngowet.

The Director General of SOGATRA, Florent BAKITA, assures that he will open a series of discussions with social partners in the coming days to review the realities and projects likely to put the Gabonese Transport Company back on track in the short, medium and long term.

Created in 1997, SOGATRA has often been plunged into a zone of turbulence due to governance problems on the part of successive general managements. Between obsolete equipment, unpaid salaries and repeated strikes, the structure is lurching to the great dismay of employees who no longer know which way to turn.
