Södertälje switches off again during Earth Hour

On Saturday, March 23 at 8:30 p.m., Södertälje municipality will participate in Earth Hour – the world’s largest climate demonstration. The municipality is turning off the lights in the City Hall as a call for commitment to biodiversity and to reducing climate emissions.

In Södertälje, sustainability issues are in focus all year round throughout the organization and the municipality. The municipality creates the conditions for citizens to be able to live as sustainably as possible and thus reduce the pressure on the planet. Below are tips on what each individual can do:

Facts regarding Earth Hour – the world’s largest environmental manifestation

Earth Hour takes place at 20.30 on the last Saturday in March every year, but this year is earlier due to Easter. The initiative was started by WWF in Australia in 2007 and has since grown exponentially. Last year, 190 countries and close to a billion people participated in Earth Hour worldwide. Many famous landmarks went out during the hour, such as the Sydney Opera House, the Statue of Christ in Rio de Janeiro and Notre Dame in Paris. In Sweden, a total of 121 municipalities participated in Earth Hour in various ways.
