While waiting for the 2024 campaign, it is already the campaign in 2023. Summoned to a Summer University on Saturday at the Théâtre de Mons, socialist executives and activists were urged by Paul Magnette and Olivier Faure, at his side, first secretary of the French PS, to “knock now, in the coming days, at the doors of our fellow citizens” in order to collect “one million signatures in favor of a European wealth tax”. The Brussels Commission will move (eventually) on this sole condition. Paul Magnette added: “Alongside this citizens’ initiative for a wealth tax, which we are behind, we are at the same time launching a second campaign for the automatic indexation of wages on a European scale”. Olivier Faure noted, France does not know the mechanism allowing to limit the breakage by heavy inflation. So much for the socialist campaign of 2024, it was the kick-off on Saturday.
