Social Security prioritizes these people in the procedures 2024-07-10 09:18:36

The Social Security Administration (SSA) is constantly working to streamline its procedures. In this way, beneficiaries have faster access to their monthly income, among other benefits. Just two weeks ago, a significant change was announced regarding disability procedures.

As you know, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) allow people with disabilities to request monthly payments. However, the process is sometimes cumbersome and complex. That is why it takes so long to send the initial payment.

The Administration, led by Social Security Commissioner Martin O’Malley, has already set itself the goal of simplifying the disability assessment process. This would reduce waiting times.

“This new rule will reduce the burden and time our applicants must spend completing information regarding their employment history. It will allow them to focus more easily on current and relevant details regarding their previous work,” said the executive.

Reduction of work history period

The SSA announced that it will reduce the work history period from 15 years to just five. This is undoubtedly a valuable decade-long difference that will allow more people to qualify.

The rule is supported by the executive order on Transforming the Customer Experience and Federal Service Delivery to Rebuild Trust in Government.

The SSA confirmed that it will streamline step number four, which checks whether a worker can perform any of his or her relevant past jobs. It will now be quicker to check relevant past jobs.

At the same time, waiting times will also be shorter. The agency will no longer consider previous work that began and ended in less than 30 calendar days. With the new change, people who qualify for these monthly payments can now benefit.
