Social media addiction is a threat to mental health

Psychological and social expert Lama Al-Safadi revealed that the constant presence on social networking sites would cause severe damage to the mental health of people, especially adolescents.

Lama Al-Safadi said in her intervention today, Thursday, on the “Sky News Arabia” screen, that the reason for this is because they do not have enough psychological flexibility to accept the delay in responding to their messages, and that the opinion of others affects them negatively.

The psychological expert indicated that communication sites lead to tension and anxiety due to some updates that put their user under supervision, forcing him to communicate and respond to avoid negative reactions from others, which causes an imbalance in “emotional stability”, according to her.

She stated that cortisone is secreted in double degrees when stress increases, which causes stomach pain, heavy sweating, bone pain and irritable bowel.

The spokeswoman provided advice that it is necessary not to respond immediately to some non-emergency calls and messages that may wait until a person can maintain a balance in his social and health life.
