Social Capital | Personality ENEATYPE 1: Perfectionist, honest and principled

In order to adequately describe any of the nine personality types contained in the enneagramwe must begin by stating its own characteristics. Those of the enneatype 1 are those of a perfectionist, honest and principled personality. We will refer to it as The Perfectionist or simply as the ONE enneatype. Their behavior and their strategies and influences must be interpreted, as with the rest of the enneatypes, through their triad of belonging, their subtypes (basic instincts and postures), their wings and their intuitive movements towards other enneatypes, in times of stress or when they feel safe. Of equal importance is knowing, in detail, the relationship between the ONE and the other numbers of the enneagram.

Using the enneatype we are analyzing on this occasion (i.e., ONE) as a reference, we can see that in the enneagram there is an arrow pointing from the number SEVEN to ONE (useful in moments of relaxation) and another from ONE to FOUR (useful in moments of stress). “We all have problems when we are at the lowest moments of the average behavior of our number … [pero, pensando en la necesidad de] protect our relationships… [se requiere] reconnect with the world in a much healthier way” (Stabile, 2020: 74-75). For example, under stress, ONEs always believe they are right.

ONEs are excellent counselors when they are in a state of balance (average) within a continuum of traits which ranges from the healthy state, through the average, to the toxic state, according to the scheme proposed by Don Richard Riso (1946-2012), an American writer and professor of the Enneagram. For ONEs, feeling perfect is feeling correct, responsible, honest, good, fair, moral, that you are right, that you are consistent with your values and with what you do. Their image is rigid, they are serious, not very expressive, they control their emotions, they try to never make mistakes and nothing is good enough (Peña Chavarino, 2016).

What would the relationship between two ONEs be like? Let’s see: “ONEs who relate to each other will feel that they are understood. However, perpetual dissatisfaction makes overcoming the yardstick that measures most aspects of the relationship” (Stabile, 2018: 71). anger It is the harmful emotion of the ONE and they manifest it through the resentment; but, since in the opinion of ONEs it is not enough to do things well, but they must be done “perfectly”, relationships with ONEs can become complicated if they do not have the knowledge contained in the enneagram. For example: for ONEs order is very important, but for TWOs the relationship itself is important.

Once we have discovered our personality type (basic enneatype), in addition to having already identified the subtype that our basic instinct indicates (that is, ONE-conservation, ONE-social or ONE-transmitter), we validate the results by revealing the other subtype (that is, our social posture or style: combative, humble or reserved. The matter is not easy; for example, a ONE-conservation (humble) can pass for a NINE, due to their balanced appearance.
