Hamburger SV is in the semifinals of the DFB Cup! But what kind of drama is this in Hamburg? Against Karlsruher SC in a duel between two teams from the 2nd Bundesliga, HSV only progressed with great difficulty, in a penalty shoot-out. HSV played the last 25 minutes with a majority and used this to equalize 2-2 in injury time. Defender Miro Muheim made way for an offensive in the 80th minute. In the penalty shoot-out, Hamburg fell behind before three shooters from Karlsruhe failed one after the other.

Bochum-Freiburg 1:2 nV
In the Bundesliga on course for the Champions League, in the cup only one step away from the final in Berlin: In his eleventh year as head coach of SC Freiburg, Christian Streich (56) is heading for his biggest coup. The fifth-placed team beat newly promoted Bochum 2-1 (0-0) after extra time in the quarter-finals and made it into the last four for only the second time in the club’s history. But it is an absolute thriller. Roland Sallai (120th) only scored in the very last minute and propelled Freiburg into the semi-finals. In regular time, Nils Petersen (51st) scored the lead for the Breisgau team, who have only lost one of their last seven competitive games. Substitute Sebastian Polter (64th) still equalizes. Then the drama in stoppage time. The Sallais winning goal was preceded by a very bitter mistake by Bochum’s Leitsch. His back pass totally fails, so that Sallai can run to goal alone and make it through to the semi-finals. In front of 10,000 fans, Bochum, who returned from the Bundesliga, had their dream of a second cup final after 1988 shattered, while Freiburg dreamed.

Hanover 96 – Leipzig 0: 4
RB Leipzig is contesting its sixth season in the Bundesliga and could – in the cup – win its first title. With a 4-0 win in Hanover, the people of Leipzig confidently reach the semi-finals. Hanover, 12th in the 2nd Bundesliga, cannot challenge Leipzig. The East Germans are already 2-0 up thanks to two goals from their French goalgetter Christopher Nkunku. Laimer and André Silva ultimately put the lid on it.

Union Berlin – FC St. Pauli
Huge success for Urs Fischer: His team is in the semi-finals of the DFB Cup for the first time since 2001! Union Berlin falls behind after a good 20 minutes against St. Pauli. Kyereh meets the Hamburger leadership. But the Köpenickers fight back. They benefit from two slips in the back team of the second division. Becker and Voglsammer are the Union goal scorers.
