Soccer: Messi sets two records in Miami win

Record number one: Never before had a player in the US professional league been involved in six goals for his team. Record number two: He provided five assists – more assists in a game than any other player before him, according to the MLS statistics.

The 36-year-old scored one goal himself on matchday 12 on Saturday (local time) at Chase Stadium. The other goals were scored by Uruguayan Luis Suárez (3) and Matias Rojas (2) from Paraguay – following a 1-0 half-time deficit Assists from Messi. Around 21,500 spectators attended the home game.

Messi, who was named MLS Player of the Month in April, has now scored at least one goal in six league games in a row – and has ten goals and twelve assists following just eight games. With the win, Miami extended its six-game unbeaten streak and remains at the top of the Eastern Conference. Messi and Suarez lead the top scorers list with ten goals each.
