“Snow tickets” will be valid in Riga on Tuesday as well

On Tuesday, April 23, “snow tickets” and free travel on public transport for drivers will also be introduced in Riga, representatives of the Riga City Council told LETA.

According to forecasts from the Latvian Center for Environment, Geology and Meteorology, heavy snowfall will continue on Monday evening and Tuesday night, and the air temperature will drop, so the Riga City Council will introduce so-called “snow tickets” on Tuesday as well. On this day, drivers will be able to use city public transport – buses, trolleybuses and trams – free of charge.

When the temperature drops, ice forms on the roads, the thickness of the snow cover can grow up to ten centimeters, visibility will deteriorate, which can lead to traffic difficulties on the capital’s streets. All municipal services and equipment will be used to maintain streets and sidewalks, but residents are encouraged to use public transportation as often as possible to facilitate street cleaning and reduce congestion.

Considering that many cars are already equipped with summer tires, the Riga City Council urges drivers to be especially careful, work remotely if possible, use public transport or plan the time and route of their departure in advance, taking into account that they will have to spend more time on the road than usual.

The vehicle registration certificate will be considered a valid document for travel on public transport.
