Last night marked a monumental moment in the world of nü-metal as Snot, the iconic Santa Barbara-based band known for their fusion of punk, funk, and metal, made their long-awaited return to the stage. The spotlight, though, wasn’t just on the band’s electrifying performance—it was also on their new frontman,Andy Knapp, who stepped into the role with both passion and reverence.
Knapp, a seasoned musician and the frontman of the Santa Barbara band Stronger Than Machines, has been welcomed into Snot with open arms. I had the privilege of sitting down with Andy to discuss this new chapter in his career, the challenges of stepping into such a legacy, and what fans can expect from Snot moving forward.
Archyde: andy, last night was a huge moment for Snot and for you personally. How does it feel to be the new face of such an iconic band?
Andy Knapp: It’s a mix of emotions, honestly. There’s excitement, of course—this is a dream come true for any musician. But there’s also a deep sense of duty. Lynn Strait was a legend, and I’m fully aware of the shoes I’m stepping into. I’m here to honor his legacy while bringing my own energy to the band.
Archyde: Speaking of Lynn, his passing was a profound loss for the music community. How did you approach the challenge of respecting his memory while making the role your own?
Andy: It’s something I’ve thought about every day since I joined. Lynn’s spirit is still very much a part of Snot, and I think it’s meaningful to acknowledge that. I’ve been listening to his work, watching old performances, and really trying to understand what made him so special. That said, I also know the band didn’t want a carbon copy of Lynn—they wanted someone who could bring something new to the table. So, I’m trying to strike that balance: honoring the past while pushing the music forward.
Archyde: You’re also the frontman for Stronger Than Machines. how do you balance your commitments to both bands?
Andy: It’s definitely a juggling act, but I’m lucky to have an amazing team around me—both in Snot and Stronger Than Machines. The two bands have different vibes, so it’s not like I’m doing the same thing twice. Snot is this high-energy, in-your-face experience, while Stronger Than Machines leans more into raw, emotional storytelling. I think the variety actually keeps me creatively fresh.
Archyde: Last night’s performance was your debut with Snot. What was going through your mind as you walked onto that stage?
Andy: Honestly, it was a mix of adrenaline and gratitude. I kept thinking about how much this moment means to the fans, to the band, and to me.There’s been so much anticipation around Snot’s return, and I just wanted to give the audience everything I had.Seeing their energy and support was humbling—it reminded me why I fell in love with music in the first place.
Archyde: What’s next for snot? Can fans expect new music soon?
Andy: Absolutely. We’ve been working on some new material, and it’s shaping up to be something really special. We’re staying true to the Snot sound, but there’s also this new energy in the room that’s pushing us to explore new ideas. We’re planning to hit the studio in a few months, and if all goes well, fans can expect something fresh later this year.
Archyde: Andy, thank you for taking the time to speak with us. We’re excited to see where you and Snot go from here. Any final words for the fans?
Andy: Just a huge thank you to everyone who’s supported me and the band on this journey. Last night was just the beginning, and I can’t wait to see where we go next. Stay tuned—Snot is back, and we’re ready to make some noise.
As Andy Knapp steps into this new role, it’s clear that he’s not just filling shoes—he’s carving out his own path while honoring the legacy of a band that has left an indelible mark on the music world. Last night’s performance was a testament to that, and it’s safe to say that the future of Snot is in more than capable hands.
