Snoop Dogg made Olympic history. No one could have imagined that.

The Olympic torch relay is a tradition of the Olympic Games. Athletes, artists, politicians, activists and other nominated individuals pass the Olympic torch to each other from time to time so that the famous flame can travel from the Greek Olympus, where the games were held in ancient times, to the city – the host of the Olympic Games. One of the greatest honors for athletes is lighting the main, large torch in the stadium or in the city, to symbolically start the biggest sports event of the quadrennial. It is a great mystery who will do it in Paris and where exactly the torch of the games will burn.

Snoop Dogg in the Olympic Torch Relay

In January, NBC announced that Snoop Dogg would be its collaborator for the Olympics. It was a sensational move, but it did the station a lot of good marketing-wise.

Working in front of the camera is not the rapper’s only occupation during this year’s Olympic Games. He was hired to be part of the Olympic torch relay, as confirmed by the mayor of Saint-Denis. This is a town located near Paris, part of the Paris metropolitan area, known for the Stade de France, where the rugby 7-a-side tournament and track and field competitions will be held during the games.

Snoop Dogg ran early Friday afternoon near the French national stadium and the Olympic village, accompanied by crowds of spectators and a large group of photographers. The rapper’s song “Who Am I?”, released in the early ’90s, played in the background.

“He did it! Snoop won the world game,” Eurosport briefly described on social media, publishing several photos of the rapper running with the Olympic torch in his hand.

Before passing the Olympic flame to the next person, Snoop Dogg started dancing in his golden shoes. Fans went wild to see the musician in this special moment. It was obvious that he enjoyed this short run with the Olympic torch. He smiled and waved to the fans the entire time.

Snoop Dogg has been closely associated with sports throughout his music career. He has appeared on WWE wrestling shows, performed at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, and supports youth development through the Snoop Youth Football League.
