Snoop Dogg is poised to embrace a new identity as ‘Hoop Dogg’ if his ambitious plan to invest in Celtic comes to fruition.
The legendary rapper, renowned for his chart-topping hit “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” has forged a significant connection with sports, making headlines this summer for his appearance at the Paris 2024 Olympics clad in equestrian gear.
Snoop Dogg’s passion for sports is well-known, and he expressed admiration for recent ventures in football by celebrities, particularly Rihanna’s partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, who showed interest in League Two’s Tranmere Rovers.
Now it’s Snoop’s turn to consider following in the footsteps of Wrexham’s owners, actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, by investing in a British football club.
In a candid interview with the Daily Record, Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, revealed his desire to invest in the storied Scottish club, Celtic.
He shared, “I love what Ryan has done with Wrexham – it’s just a great story. Investing in a sports team has been something I have been looking at for a long time – if the chance came to invest in Celtic, I would be crazy not to take a look at it.”
Further highlighting his enthusiasm for Celtic, he remarked, “I have watched so much soccer in Europe but I have never seen fans like the Celtic fans. There is something so special about them.”
“There is a reason why their fans are talked about across Europe – the best players and coaches in the world tell you there is nowhere like Celtic Park and I want to be a part of that.”
The rapper humorously noted another charming coincidence that attracts him to Celtic; “Their mascot is a hound – you couldn’t make that up! Snoop Dogg becomes Hoopy the Hound – that’s gotta be a match made in heaven.” He quipped, “The headlines write themselves.”
Snoop Dogg’s interest in Celtic will undoubtedly excite fans, particularly considering his substantial net worth of £120 million.
He has long aspired to collaborate musically with iconic fellow Celtic fan, Sir Rod Stewart, expressing enthusiasm for a duet.
In a rather unexpected twist, Snoop also revealed a desire to see X Factor champion and avid Hoops supporter Susan Boyle return to the music scene, saying, “Susan Boyle is a name everybody is going to remember.”
He praised Simon Cowell’s talent for spotting stars, adding, “I haven’t heard about her in a long time but Susan needs to make a comeback. I’d love to sing with her.”
Celtic FC is currently under the stewardship of multiple shareholders, including Dermot Desmond and Lindsell Train, who collectively hold over half of the club’s shares.

Should Snoop Dogg and Celtic forge a “Beautiful” partnership, he would likely join as a co-investor instead of becoming the sole owner, which aligns with the club’s governance structure.
Nonetheless, the prospect of Snoop Dogg joining forces with Celtic’s manager Brendan Rodgers would certainly make for iconic headlines.
