In the space of a few weeks, American political contestation has become an unpredictable affair. Before Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the race for the White House and unleashed a veritable earthquake among the Dems, the attack on Donald Trump left everyone breathless. The images were bounced from one newspaper to another and plunged the entire world back into terror of the attacks. “The solemn mission of the secret services is to protect our nation’s leaders. On July 13, we failed,” said the director of the Secret Service Kimberly Cheatle in statements prepared for the hearing before the House Oversight Committee after the event. That episode, however, could happen again. A sniper from the American Secret Service fears that there could be another attack within a month, after the one in which Donald Trump remained unharmed.
“This agency needs to change,” reads the email, written for internal use by 007 and published on the account of a RealClearPolitics journalist, Susan Crabtree. “If not now, when? The next assassination in 30 days?” “Unfortunately,” he continues, “we have not been up to par for years and I have expressed these thoughts not only to supervisors.” “We all,” he adds, “should expect another attack before November. We have shown our inability to protect our leaders.” The New York Post claims that the letter is authentic and was written by a member of the agency and sent to the Secret Service Uniformed Division, which is responsible for White House security. The sniper is calling for the resignation of the top brass.
