SNCB’s New Transport Plan: Increased Offer and Station Connections

2023-12-10 09:26:00

SNCB launches its new transport plan on Sunday, with the aim of increasing its offer by 7.4% compared to previous phases. This plan, the “most ambitious ever” according to the railway company, will extend until 2026. However, connections will have to be canceled due to a shortage of staff.

In line with its 2023-2032 Public Service Contract, SNCB aims to run 2,000 additional trains per week, including 720 on weekends, from December 10. The new offer will be offered in 280 stations in Belgium, with the aim of increasing the number of passengers on the rail network by 30% by 2032.

In Wallonia, several stations will now be better connected to Charleroi airport, with a new train between Louvain, Fleurus and Charleroi-Central, as well as an increase in the frequency of trains on the Wavre-Jambes link.

In and around Liège, the S (suburban) offer will be reinforced during the week, with a greater frequency of the Liège-Saint-Lambert-Verviers-Central, Flémalle-Haute-Liers and Liège-Visé trains.

In the north of the country, the Ghent-Lokeren train will run once more from Sunday and will also be extended to Oudenaarde during the week.

The staff shortage which has affected SNCB for several months will, however, limit the circulation of certain P trains (scheduled during rush hour) around Grammont, Ghent and Oudenaarde and the Puurs-Essen connection.

Furthermore, some P trains with low attendance due to the increase in teleworking will no longer run, in order to reallocate resources in a more relevant way in trains where the number of passengers is increasing.

Travelers can check what changes for them on the trip planner on the SNCB website and application.
