SNCB will increase its prices by almost 6% from February 1

SNCB will increase its prices by 5.9% from February 1, 2024, an increase which integrates the evolution of the consumer price index, announced the railway company in a press release released on Friday.

Both regulated fares (home-school and home-work subscriptions, the standard ticket and 2nd class Senior and Youth Tickets, as well as the ticket with Increased Intervention reduction) as well as unregulated fares (such as the Youth Multi, the Standard Multi and Local Multi) will be indexed by 5.9%.

SNCB generally adjusts its prices upwards every year at the same time. The alignment with the consumer price index meets the provisions of the public service contract concluded with the government, it is specified.

The prices of the City Pass in Antwerp, Ghent, Charleroi and Liège and the bicycle supplement remain unchanged.

For commuters who telework on average 2 to 3 days per week, SNCB recommends the Flex Abonnement (a flexible home-work subscription) which was launched in March.

The announcement on Friday of this price increase coincides with the communication made earlier in the day by the rail network manager Infrabel on punctuality. In November, no less than 19.2% of passenger trains running on the Belgian network were late. Which means, according to Infrabel data, that they arrived at least 6 minutes late at their terminal station and/or in Brussels for those whose North-Midi junction is part of the journey. This is one of the worst results in 7 years.
