• Fashionable face painting
• A real business during these 7 days
Lhe city of Bobo vibrated from April 29 to May 6, to the rhythms of the 20e edition of National Culture Week. For the occasion, the craft and commercial fair officially opened its doors on April 30. Considered the most important activity of the SNC, the fair is a real springboard for building relationships and above all doing business. On the occasion, a relatively new activity caught the attention of festival-goers at the various biennial sites. These are drawings or paintings on the face.
Young people of all sexes posted at the entrances, others strolling around the grounds of the SNC courtyard, pots of paint in hand, accost visitors to offer their services. Make drawings on the faces. Considered as drawing artists, and coming from several localities of the country, the latter say they want to contribute, by means of drawing, to give more color to the event and to make the celebration even more beautiful. Aziz Soré, one of the drawing artists, suggested that: “I came especially from Ouaga for this event. We make drawings on the faces, during events like the SNC, the SIAO, the Fespaco… it’s a real artistic activity, because there is a training school for that, but I haven’t been in this school. I learned this with friends”.
These drawings seem to be really appreciated by many festival-goers, in particular, the young fringe, in view of the enthusiasm around these drawing artists. A young girl, Leila, who has just had a drawing done on her face, confides to us: “This drawing is like proof of my time at the SNC. It’s a bit like when we were children, and they bought us masks. Now that I am no longer old enough to wear masks, I make this drawing on my face”. For Dabiré, another who benefited from the services of designers: “The SNC is a cultural festival. These drawings have become like a signature of the SNC, since almost everyone has this on their face, so I did it to look like other festival-goers. And it’s very pretty.” Regarding the price of the service, Soré, a designer, tells us that it depends on the drawings and the material used. “There are people who use chalk, so they do it from 100F. But I use “guoise”, a quality of paint. So my prices vary between 300F and 500FCFA”. Costs considered affordable by customers who are even delighted by the existence of this activity. “I think it’s cheaper, compared to the joy and satisfaction that drive me right now,” says Miss Dabiré.
Exercising their activity in complete peace of mind without spending the slightest franc as occupancy costs, these draftsmen are among those who rub their hands at this fair. Always, according to Soré: “I can make a turnover of more than 20,000f per day. And that, because many of us have done that, if not before, what I earned exceeded that”.
This activity generates income for many young people who make their best sales during major events.
