The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 finally got an official release date. For several months we have had several leaks and rumors involving chipset specifications, but that is regarding to end. Qualcomm announced when it will hold its Snapdragon Summit event, where the new SnapDragon 8 Gen 3 will probably be launched.
Snapdragon Summit date will change this year
When Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was launched at Snapdragon Summit 2022, the event took place in November. However, Qualcomm announced that its 2023 convention will be held from the 24th to the 26th of October. It is believed that it is at this time that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be unveiled.
For the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Qualcomm will not use the 3nm manufacturing process, as these wafers are reserved for Apple. In its new chipset, the company intends to use a production with 4NP node, providing high performance without sacrificing energy efficiency. In addition, during the Snapdragon Summit we will also be able to see a preview of custom Oryon cores.
The new Oryon cores will unfortunately not be utilized in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, but it is believed that they will come in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which will be released in late 2024. Furthermore, Qualcomm is developing the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4, a chipset designed for notebooks that have more cores than smartphone processors. The company is expected to talk regarding how its new hardware will help applications involving artificial intelligence, as word is at an all-time high this year.
Rumors regarding Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 configuration
To recall what Qualcomm is supposed to present, possible leaks say that the company is testing two versions of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, where one has two Cortex-X4 cores instead of one. However, due to energy efficiency concerns, the company will most likely use a single-core Cortex-X4 configuration, with a “1+5+2” configuration. In addition, it is believed that we will have the use of “titanium” cores for the first time and the implementation of the new Adreno 750 GPU.
