Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 details emerge – can it beat MediaTek?

It is undeniable that Qualcomm is the most relevant chip maker of the brand in the leading sector. MediaTek certainly has a strong presence in other divisions, but while its Dimensity 9000 flagship series is capable, it is not favored by brands over the Snapdragon 8 Gen series. Despite this, the Taiwanese company has gained the favor of most brands in the premium middle-class segment. This is a category now occupied by chips such as the Dimensity 1300 and Dimensity 8000 series. For this particular category, Qualcomm has the latest Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. However, it doesn’t seem to be gaining further ground. Can the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 reverse this situation? Let’s find out.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 details appear

The Snapdragon 700 series has often been found in premium mid-range phones. However, MediaTek has gained ground in the so-called “key entry” segment. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 arrived this year to compete with some of the offerings in the Dimensity series. But so far, it has few devices. The performance gains aren’t very significant, and the chip also uses Samsung manufacturing, which has proven to be a problem this year. Things may change with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2.

So far, details regarding the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 are still scarce. But today, new leak It comes with some specifications. According to reports, Qualcomm has a new chip that is codenamed SM7475. At the moment, it is not clear whether it is the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 or the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1. After all, why not? The report suggests that it will come in three groups. There will be 1 x Prime, 3 x Gold, and 4 x Silver Core.

According to leaker Roland Quandt, the Prime core will run around 2.4GHz. Gold cores will have the same clock speed. Meanwhile, the effective silver cores will rise to 1.8GHz. These numbers are very close to the current Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.

There are rumors of a Cortex-A715 core for the Prime and Gold cores. Meanwhile, the Silver group gets the new, updated Cortex-A510 cores. For those unaware, these are some of the latest offerings in the ARMv9 standard. Currently, Qualcomm is the only company to offer these cores at an “intermediate level.”

At this time, the identity of the chipset cannot be determined. However, we can see an incremental rise in performance. When it comes to efficiency, things will be much better. After all, the Cortex-A715 is only 5% faster but 20% more energy efficient. The smaller A510 cores are also 5% more efficient.

We might see him during the Snapdragon Summit

There is no timetable for the release of these slides. However, we wouldn’t be surprised to see something pop up in November. After all, Qualcomm will introduce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 series. We expect more details to come out soon.
