Your pseudonym on Snapchat no longer matches your tastes? No worries, the social network will finally allow you to modify it without losing your account. Evan Spiegel’s platform has announced the deployment of a new option. As of February 23, Snapchat users will be able to change their username while retaining all of their settings.

This change will not affect the Snap score, Snap code, friends list or “memories”, the user’s old content. Only the username will be changed. This feature will be available on both iOS and Android apps. In Australia, users had already had access to this novelty.

While this option is good news for users who crave a change, Snapchat will only allow it to be changed once a year. Users will also not be able to choose a username that has already been used by themselves or any other subscriber, thus rendering old usernames unrecoverable. A way to prevent abuse on the platform.

To access this option, users will need to follow several steps:

  1. Click the Bitmoji icon to access the profile
  2. Click on the “cogwheel” icon to access the settings
  3. Tap on “Username”, just below “Name”, and select “Edit Username” marked in blue
  4. Click continue on the pop-up window to finalize the change
