Snapchat launches its mini selfie drone: Pixy

Snapchat has been marketing connected glasses for a few years, allowing users to capture images to post on the social network. Now, Snapchat offers a new product that will appeal to selfie lovers. It is a small drone named Pixy, which allows you to take photos and videos with different shooting modes and then instantly upload them to the Snapchat mobile app.

A mini-drone

Available in limited quantitythis featherweight drone allows you to take videos and photos and apply effects to them before sharing them on social networks. It slips easily into a bag or pocket, and the handling is intuitive. Pixy is only used to take selfies that the user will be able to publish on the platforms. The drone does not require any piloting knowledge, since everything is automatique.

“On the contrary, we wanted to create a product that is fun and easy to access so that people feel comfortable with it. It took us quite a few years of research. » said Evan Spiegel, PDG de Snapchat.

Getting started with Pixy is indeed childishly simple. The connection between the drone and l’application Snapchat is done in seconds. From there, the user can apply filters, add music and video effects, and then share the result on any social network. Pixy is only available at United States and France for a price of 249,99 euros. This price includes a pack that includes the mini-drone, a removable rechargeable battery, a USB cable, a bumper with a carrying strap and a user manual.

How does this drone work?

To make Pixy take off, you have to put it in the palm of your hand, at eye level, press a button and smile. One of the two on-board cameras then focuses on the person and points towards them throughout the shot, which lasts 10 to 20 seconds. The drone then returns to land gently on the user’s hand. The user can choose between five shooting modes :

– A stationary mode

– An orbit mode, where Pixy rotates 360° around you

– A follow mode, where Pixy stands behind you and moves forward following you

– A “revelation” mode, where Pixy moves away while gaining height then returns to your hand

– A personalized mode

The result is quality, and allows you to obtain much more varied angles of view than by brandishing your smartphone in selfie mode. Pixy stands out from other drones on the market with its bright yellow plastic, childish sound effects and toy-like design. However, it is not a toy because users have to respect local regulations on the use of leisure drones which also apply to Pixy.
