Oatmeal can be used in many ways in the kitchen and is a real all-rounder. Not only do they taste great prepared as porridge, they can also be used for delicious baked goods.
For example, you can replace part of the flour with the small flakes or replace the entire amount. This makes the whole thing much more nutritious and healthier. In contrast to wheat flour, oats are rich in macronutrients such as iron, calcium and magnesium as well as B vitamins, vitamins K and E.
Another advantage that the local superfood promises: It scores with fibers such as pectin and cellulose. 100 grams contain regarding 10 grams of fiber. These ensure a stable blood sugar level, so that unwanted cravings don’t stand a chance. They also swell up nicely in the intestines and keep you full for a long time.
How to bake with oatmeal
To create a flour-like consistency, you can grind the flakes with a mortar or hand blender. If you want to save yourself the work, you can buy ready-made oatmeal in the supermarket, in the drugstore or online. However, this is significantly more expensive compared to a pack of oatmeal.
Another important thing to remember when making your cookies with oatmeal is that oatmeal is naturally gluten-free. Traces of gluten may be present due to contamination from other grains. Anyone who suffers from severe celiac disease should therefore use gluten-free oatmeal as a precaution. But regardless of whether you use regular or gluten-free flakes, you need an alternative binder for the missing gluten. Eggs, flaxseed or chia seeds are recommended.
