(Keystone-ATS) In Fribourg, a cantonal mandate with the Glâne health network will allow elderly people a smooth transition between hospital stay and return home. The offer concerns the opening of 12 beds for evaluation and orientation (SEO) stays.

The unit will be operational from Friday on the Billens site, the Department of Health and Social Affairs (DSAS) indicated on Wednesday. Its primary mission is to guarantee an appropriate transition between a hospital stay and return home.

The new offer meets a need for elderly people and their families and will promote staying at home, specifies the press release from the services of State Councilor Philippe Demierre. This type of unit is expected to develop in the coming years.

It is indeed an important element in the care of the elderly which is firmly in line with the political will to meet the needs expressed by a majority of elderly people to stay at home as long as possible.
