The winds are turning and favoring the return of smoke from the forest fires to Quebec. State of play.

The winds change direction

After several days away from the smoke, a change in the direction of the winds caused it to return to the province. The smog is carried behind the air masses which begin their descent from north to south.

As we can see on the radars, the smoke will be less dense than last Sunday. However, it will be thick enough to affect air quality.

Poor air quality and smog warnings

As of this writing, much of the territory has already received an alert bulletin for poor air quality. The south and west of the province will notably be under smog warnings for the whole day on Thursday. The air will contain high concentrations of fine particles in suspension in Abitibi to Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean via the metropolitan area.

The smoke will remain over these areas all day before gradually dissipating on Friday. However, it could persist a little longer in the coming days.

Environment Canada reminds that wearing a properly fitted N-95 mask reduces health risks. It is also advisable to limit your outdoor activities as much as possible.
