The Legal Medical Service (SML) announced that 131 people have died due to the forest fires that affected the Valparaíso Region.

Through a public statement, the organization updated the number of victims as a result of the emergency, indicating that as of 12:00 p.m. this Tuesday, 131 deaths have been reported.

Of them, 35 people have been identified and so far, eight bodies have been delivered to their relatives.

The service also indicated that, during the day, administrative staff and the Valparaíso Regional Prosecutor’s Office will continue to respond to the requests of family members who have approached the institution’s offices, which is located at 954 Orella Street, in Valparaíso.

Finally, the SML reiterated its condolences to the families of the victims and recalled that it continues to work in a coordinated and permanent manner with the Government, through the Undersecretariat of Justice and the Regional Ministerial Secretariat (Seremi) of Justice and Human Rights; as well as with the Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the Investigative Police (PDI) and Carabineros.
