SME increases passport issuance in Huambo

The spokeswoman for this body of the Ministry of Interior in Huambo province, chief migration inspector Marlene Matokissa, said that of the passports issued, 1,629 are ordinary and eight are service passports.

He explained that the increase resulted, essentially, from the reduction in cases of the Covid-19 pandemic, as citizens are no longer limited to issuing the document, in addition to the Simplifica 1.0 project, which ended the bureaucracy in the administrative actions of the State.

Migration officer Marlene Matokissa pointed out medical treatment, academic training, business and tourism issues, as the main reasons for issuing a passport by citizens between zero and 75 years of age.

With regard to migratory acts for foreigners, he informed that 804 had been carried out, namely 285 tourist visas, 171 for temporary stay, 159 for work, two for short duration and 102 residence cards and 85 provisional declarations for refugees had been issued.

He made it known that, of the documents already issued by the SME in the province of Huambo, 1,389 passports have yet to be picked up at the institution’s counter, with greater emphasis on the ordinary ones.

According to the official, in accordance with the Simplifica 1.0 project, in order to issue an ordinary passport, citizens must be accompanied by a colored copy of the Identity Card, certificate of residence or copy of the citizen’s card, 4 photographs and 30,500 Kwanzas of emoluments.

He revealed that the province of Huambo does not have a register of illegal foreign citizens, due to its geographical position, but only expatriates in an irregular migratory situation, who enter legally and, for unknown reasons, settle down, ending up extrapolating the pre-established deadlines. established by law.

In case of infractions, he said, in addition to being obliged to pay a fine corresponding to the days of illegal stay, they are also invited to leave the country.

The official informed that the SME in Huambo province currently controls 1,397 foreign citizens of different nationalities, of which 1,122 are men and 275 are women.

Founded in April 1976, the SME is the body of the Ministry of the Interior dedicated to the execution of policies and legislative and regulatory measures related to the entry, transit, exit and control of the stay and activities of foreign citizens in Angola.
