Smart clothing predicted to have a great future

According to scientists, most modern clothing is sewn using overlock stitches, which hold fabric fragments together to prevent them from unraveling. Engineers have conducted research and found that smart clothing can be sewn using the same principle.

The description of the scientific work says that conductive threads can be passed through the seams in smart clothing, thereby creating electrical circuits. Standard overlock seams will not restrict movement, but with the help of a weak current it will be possible to collect various data regarding the wearer. British scientists predicted a great future for clothing, since it will not be necessary to develop new technologies for its sewing.

“We found that regular overlock stitches in standard garment designs can do a good job of sensing motion,” said Professor Mike Fraser. The test piece of the smart suit did not require a separate power source, as the circuit was connected to a smartphone in the pocket. The device collected data on the person’s movements and analyzed it using artificial intelligence (AI).
