Smart camera to detect women not wearing hijab; Iran with controversial action again

HiIran police with smart cameras to find women who do not wear jab. According to an announcement issued by Iran’s police, smart cameras will be installed in public places to detect violators. After the death of a girl who was arrested by the Iranian religious police for not wearing the hijab properly, the Iranian police is preparing for a new controversial action as the popular protests in the country eased.

Women and girls caught on camera will be warned for breaking the hijab law. The warning will also state that legal action will be taken if it is repeated.

Those who remove their hijab in public places will be warned first and will be brought to court as the next step. If women traveling in cars violate the hijab rule, the car owners will be warned. If the violation continues, the vehicle will be impounded. The Iranian police also warned the protesters that they will not allow any illegal activities, either alone or in groups.

On September 16, 2022, Iranian religious police arrested Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish woman, for allegedly not wearing the hijab properly. Mahsa died following the beating. Following this, there was a massive popular uprising. Women threw their hijabs in the streets and burned them. Many people were killed in the clashes between the security forces and the people. Iran executed many people for the protest.
