A team of scientists has revealed a smart bracelet that “vibrates during sleep” that can prevent annoying teeth grinding or “friction.”
The team explained that the bracelet around the wrist, developed by the Swiss company Aesyra, connects wirelessly to the mouthguard supported by pressure sensors, which detect teeth grinding and send a signal to the bracelet to vibrate gently twice in quick succession (each time for only a fraction of a second).
The study revealed that the vibration of the bracelet alerts the person during sleep to automatically stop teeth grinding, without waking him up completely. The bracelet can reduce teeth grinding episodes by approximately 80%.
Dentist Mick Armstrong, chair of the British Dental Association’s Health and Science Committee, said this was an “interesting development”.
He added: “In some people, teeth grinding can be frequent and severe enough to lead to jaw disorders, headaches, tooth damage and other problems. It is important to minimize any stress, while dentists may provide you with a soft or hard mouth guard to wear at night and prevent you from damaging your teeth.” “.
It is noteworthy that pressure on the teeth may expose them to damage or breakage. Teeth grinding can also cause sleep disturbance, headaches, and jaw discomfort.
Stress and anxiety are the most common triggers for teeth grinding, but it is also more likely in cases of severe snoring, and treatment usually includes wearing a mouthguard at night to protect the teeth from damage.
