Tunisia and several other African countries, including Ghana, Gabon, Guinea, Rwanda and Zimbabwe, last week signed the Smart Africa Trust Alliance, a declaration aimed at promoting the interoperability of data and digital identities. This signature took place on the sidelines of the Transform Africa 2023 summit organized by Smart Africa from April 26 to 28 and aims to foster digital trust and promote the digital and economic integration of the continent, according to a statement from Smart Africa.
This alliance also aims to encourage the adoption and expansion of digital public goods, streamline digital onboarding and data sharing, and encourage the development of digital identity ecosystems. The main objective of the Smart Africa Trust Alliance is to facilitate collaboration between African countries to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals through information and communication technologies (ICT).
The declaration is part of a series of efforts to strengthen regional integration and promote a thriving digital economy on the continent. By promoting the interoperability of data and digital identities, this alliance will help reduce barriers to information exchange and improve the quality of digital services offered to African citizens.
