Small producers are trained in good poultry practices – La Discusión 2024-07-21 14:38:00

More than 60 poultry producers and technical advisors from different communes of Ñuble participated in a seminar on good poultry practices, focused on improving biosecurity and sanitary management in small-scale poultry farming.

The activity was carried out within the framework of the collaboration agreement between Indap and Chilehuevos, organized by Indap Ñuble and the Seremía de Agricultura de Ñuble.

Fernanda Azócar, regional director of Indap, highlighted that within the livestock sectors, there is a considerable number of female users of the organization who are poultry producers, so she valued that as a result of this agreement with the industry, there is a manual that is soon to be launched.

“It is a support for our small producers and we value this agreement that allows us to provide training to poultry producers, the vast majority of whom are women,” said the director.

The seminar included recommendations on the management of backyard birds and recommendations on good poultry practices for small producers, with Marcelo Olivares and Miguel Guzmán, from Chile Huevos, and later a talk on updates on avian influenza, given by veterinarian John Luarte, from the livestock division of SAG Ñuble.

Importance for producers

For Juanita Constanzo, from Quirihue, “this talk was spectacular, because there are things that are sometimes done without having the technical knowledge, and now they gave us a lot of information. The best place where the birds should be, how to maintain the environment to have a healthy product, how to store food, many things that I am going to put into practice with my native chickens, I am leaving with many new ideas,” she commented.

The regional secretary of agriculture, Antonio Arriagada, highlighted that this is a relevant activity, “which we call for mainly because of the importance of agricultural production by small-scale family farming, which supports our regional basic basket, designed to provide security once morest the different effects that this sector may suffer, mainly because of the need to incorporate good poultry practices to all producers and also to have information on avian influenza, because it is important to be alert,” he declared.
