Small plane crash in Vorarlberg: Pilot (59) did not survive

The police reported that body parts had now been recovered. According to initial findings from the aviation accident commission from the responsible ministry, the plane may have broken apart in mid-air.

According to the police, wreckage from the small plane is scattered over an area of more than 6,000 square meters. The passenger cell was discovered early Tuesday morning southwest of the Mottakopf (2,176 meters) at an altitude of around 1,500 meters above sea level. On Monday, thick fog made reconnaissance flights impossible.

From Genau to Straubing

The 59-year-old pilot with Italian citizenship was flying from Genoa to Straubing (Bavaria) on Monday morning. Data from Austro Control show that the pilot initially wanted to fly over the area at a high altitude. Above the crash site, however, the plane suddenly lost altitude and crashed, according to the police. The exact cause of the accident will of course only be known once the Aircraft Accident Commission has completed its investigation.

The OÖN reported:

The wreckage of the plane was recovered by helicopter throughout Tuesday. They will then be examined by an expert appointed by the Feldkirch public prosecutor’s office and members of the aircraft accident commission. Around 40 police and mountain rescue personnel were deployed on Tuesday, after 200 emergency personnel searched for the plane wreckage and the passenger compartment on Monday.
