Small maternities: should they be closed?

The gynecologist and head of the maternity department at the Necker hospital, Yves Ville, judges in a report that it is “illusory” to keep open the maternity wards which carry out less than 1,000 deliveries each year. The professor suggests anticipating the dysfunctions that eventually lead to the closure of these establishments, by grouping them together. 111 small maternities in mainland France are concerned.
