In a significant day for the commune of Cobquecura, province of Itata, and for the agricultural development of the Ñuble region, the delivery of eight unprecedented bonds from the Special Small Agriculture Program of the Irrigation Law was carried out. This program, administered by the National Irrigation Commission (CNR), has marked an important milestone in the area, representing a total investment of $110 million.

“We were in the commune of Cobquecura, the furthest from the region, delivering eight bonuses from the Small Agriculture Program, something unprecedented since in the last ten years only three bonuses had been delivered, and we established a series of commitments with the mayor, with farmers to continue promoting small agriculture in these areas, the most distant in each of the regions,” indicated the executive director of the CNR, Wilson Ureta Parraguez.

Until before this contest, Cobquecura’s participation in the Small Agriculture Program had been limited. However, this delivery of certificates demonstrates a significant change in local dynamics, with new beneficiary families who will be able to improve their irrigation systems, thanks to a 90% public bonus, approximately $100 million pesos.

The ceremony took place on the property of Carlos Castillo, beneficiary of the Small Agriculture Program, where various authorities were present, including the Mayor of Cobquecura, Julio Fuentes; the Executive Director of the CNR, Wilson Ureta; the Regional Coordinator of the CNR, Jorge Muñoz and the Regional Director of Conaf, Juan Salvador Ramírez. In addition, the 8 beneficiaries of the program attended, 3 farmers in the application process and several residents of the sector.

The regional coordinator of the National Irrigation Commission, Jorge Muñoz, highlighted the importance of irrigation in improving the quality of life in rural areas. “The CNR, with its regional office in Ñuble, is having a greater impact in the 21 communes of the region, thus fulfilling the mandate of the current administration to improve the living conditions of people in rural areas,” he highlighted.

In turn, the mayor of Cobquecura, Julio Fuentes, indicated that, “these are projects that are going to change the lives of our farming families, because in addition to irrigation they come with built-in solar panels, which will allow them significant savings in the cost of energy. We are very happy because we are currently applying for 3 more projects and the idea is that more families from Cobquecura join this tremendous benefit.”

For his part, Carlos Castillo, a small farmer in the Taucú sector, who for two years has been operating a sprinkler irrigation system obtained through the Small Agriculture Program of the Irrigation Law, pointed out that, “I have significantly increased production thanks to the irrigation and I am currently applying for another project to irrigate more surface area, since the irrigation system is excellent.”

In summary, the delivery of bonus certificates from the Special Small Agriculture Program in Cobquecura marks a milestone in local agricultural development, evidencing greater commitment and participation in the improvement of irrigation systems and the promotion of sustainable agriculture in the Ñuble region.
