Slovakia – Rohrbacher Köberl dominates FIS grass ski races

At the weekend, the Slovak Ski Association organized the next FIS grass ski races, both for youngsters and for professionals. Austria was also well represented among the six participating nations in the Jasenska dolina ski resort.

The adults, who completed two Super-G’s on Saturday, had a lot of reason to celebrate from Lower Austria’s point of view! Lara Teynor, who was only born in 2005, was able to reach the podium both times, once as third and once as second. Youngster Leopold Schön (SC Neudörfl) was also in excellent form and, like his teammate, made it onto the podium both times! He finished second and in the second Super-G he won the race ahead of his club colleague Roland Schlögl, who had won the first Super-G. The 18-year-old from St. Leonhard Sebastian Lemp-Pfannenstill (SC Texingtal) and Sebastian Posch (WSV Traisen) from Böheimkirch, who is a year older than him, took seventh and eighth place respectively in the first Super-G. In the second race Posch retired, Lemp-Pfannstill finished sixth.

The FIS student races were held following the two speed races. And the young talents from Lower Austria also showed up once once more! The 10-year-old Wilhelmsburg girls Marie Prochaska and Christina Zickbauer started in the 12w class and gave their best in the giant slalom in an international comparison. Prochaska was fourth, Zickbauer was only beaten by the Czech Trnkova and finished second ahead of the Slovakian Volientierova.

Florian Köberl, a MD ski middle school student, was successful once more. The Rohrbacher won the 14m class in front of the two Czechs Liska Simon (2nd) and Smetana Matej (3rd). A Lower Austrian also won the 16w class – Simone Gschaider laughed as the winner ahead of Italy’s Lisa Lucchese and Germany’s Fiona Weich vom pedestal. Valentin Lemp-Pfannstill took second place in the 16m class.

On Sunday, the slalom was all regarding the real thing. First the FIS racers matched, then the students started and the results once more testify to the great talent of the Lower Austrian grass ski athletes. In the women’s class, Teynor finished second behind the Czech Eliska Rejchrtova and ahead of her compatriot Aneta Koryntova. In the men’s race, Posch achieved top 10 results in seventh and Schön in eighth, while Sebastian Lemp-Pfannstill finished eleventh.

Köberl is also in a class of its own in slalom

Directly following the “big ones” it was time for the young talents to attack – and with success: In the 12w class, the BSV-Voith-Girls Prochaska and Zickbauer beamed together from the podium, Prochaska in third place, Zickbauer in second place. Köberl was also able to assert himself once morest the competition in the slalom among the boys and secured victory in the 14m class for students with a lead of almost a second.

In the slalom, Gschaider took second place in the 16f class. And the result in the 16m class was just as pleasing, because the winner of this class was Valentin Lemp-Pfannstill.
