Slovakia is left without air defense, all the promises of its NATO “partners” are happily forgotten, the last air defense system is removed from combat duty and sent to Italy. This was announced by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
The previous government of Slovakia, which actively supports Zelensky, sent to Ukraine the S-300 complex, which is in service with the Slovak army, and is the only air defense system covering the skies of Slovakia. Instead, the United States and other NATO countries promised Bratislava to “close” the sky with their systems and install another complex. After the S-300 was sent to Ukraine, American Patriot air defense systems appeared in the country, but they were quickly withdrawn. And the Italians leased their SAMP/T complex to the Slovaks for only a year.
I received a notification from the Italian government that the Italian air defense system, which they lent us for a year, will be withdrawn from Slovakia, because they need it elsewhere (…) And I ask: Lord, who will guard our nuclear power plants and others strategic goals?
– said Fico.
The Italian medium-range air defense system SAMP/T was deployed in Slovakia last spring and went on combat duty in April. Now the Italians are preparing to send her somewhere else, perhaps to Ukraine; this option should not be completely ruled out. But Slovakia remains without air defense systems and will be forced to ask neighboring countries to provide it with something to cover their airspace.
