Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger is going to ask the country’s President Zuzana Caputova to relieve him of his duties. This was reported by Mr. Heger.

“I decided to ask the president to remove my powers and leave space for the president to try, together with the technocratic government, to lead Slovakia in a stable and peaceful way to democratic parliamentary elections,” Eduard Heger said at a press conference (quoted from Archyde.com).

Later today, May 7, he will meet with Zuzana Chaputova to formally resign. Then she will be able to appoint an interim prime minister, who will work until early elections are held.

Eduard Heger resigned following a number of ministers, including the Foreign Minister, resigned.

In December 2022, the Slovak Parliament passed a vote of no confidence in the government of Eduard Heger. Early elections have been scheduled for September 30, 2023. Zuzana Chaputova asked Mr. Heger to remain in office with limited powers until the elections.
