Slimming: what if the reason you weren’t slimming was in your genes?

We all know a person who may eat in large quantities and who does not gain a gram. If for some eating fatty and sugary foods is no problem, for others it is quite the opposite. But in reality, isn’t thinness linked to our DNA? This was revealed by a study published in the journal ScienceDaily. Indeed, researchers have looked at the DNA of 1,600 people with a low body mass index. 1,900 people, who suffer from obesity were also analyzed. And the findings are quite startling.

A study with astonishing results

Indeed, the scientists drew several conclusions from this study: “Scientists were able to spot coding patterns in all three groups. » They discovered that obese people were “more likely to have one set of genes linked to being overweight whereas lean people had fewer genes linked to obesity. »

Sadaf Farooqi, a member of the research team, released their findings in a statement: “This work shows for the first time that lean, healthy people are generally healthy because they have a lower gene load that increases the risk of being overweight. » Thus, scientists discover that genes are very important in how our bodies get thinner or fatter. “People who don’t gain weight have something special – they resist obesity”said Philippe Froguel, French doctor and teacher-researcher in endocrinology, molecular biology and genetics. “This research shows for the first time that healthy thin people are generally thin because they have a lower burden of genes that increase the risk of being overweight and not because they are morally superior, as some people like the suggest”.
