After the Bayonne celebrations, several pharmacies in the city saw a rush for their Covid-19 screening tests. Public Health France has noted a slight increase in the number of new cases, which is not alarming for the moment.
Three years later, large gatherings remain conducive to the circulation of Covid-19 and the Bayonne festivals are no exception. Local media France Bleu and South West report an increase in the number of sales of Covid-19 screening tests in pharmacies in Bayonne. A phenomenon linked to the traditional festivals held in the city from July 26 to 30.
If Public Health France does not count the results of the self-tests, the New Aquitaine branch of this public body dependent on the Ministry of Health has indeed noted a slight increase in the number of cases of Covid-19 in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
Laurent Filleul, head of the regional unit of Public Health France in New Aquitaine, reports to BFMTV.com that 90 new cases were detected in the department last week (from Monday July 24 to Sunday July 30).
“Nothing unexpected or unusual”
Note that this level of new cases is similar to that counted a month earlier, with 97 new cases the week of June 26 in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. Nothing alarming therefore for the moment, and above all “nothing unexpected or unusual” with an event which attracted more than a million people, underlines Laurent Filleul. Especially since no serious case in the hospital has been identified.
This figure is also part of a context of slight epidemic recovery at the national level, according to certain indicators. Public Health France thus reports, for the week of July 24 to 30, a 26% increase in emergency room visits for suspected Covid-19 infection (which represents an increase of 149 visits).
In the event of a positive test for Covid-19, it is no longer mandatory to isolate yourself. However, it is strongly recommended to avoid all contact with fragile people and to respect barrier gestures (wear a mask, wash your hands regularly, air the rooms in which you are at least ten minutes per hour, avoid being close to others…). In case of symptoms of Covid-19, it is advisable to wear a mask and avoid contact with fragile people.
