WKS finished the match with FC St. Gallen with eight players. Referee Duje Strukan from Croatia showed Alex Petkov, Nahuel Leiva and Arnau Ortiz red cards in the second half. After the first half, Śląsk were leading 3:1, thanks to an impressive finish – between the 41st and 45+3rd minute, goals for WKS were scored by Scharz, Samiec-Talar and Petkov. The goal that won FC St. Gallen promotion from a penalty kick in the 18th minute of added time to the second half was scored by Geubbels.
– A lot was happening. I think that if Rafał had saved the second penalty, we would have scored a third time, then a fourth, a fifth and so on. I was with one of the boys at the referees’ after the match. He pushed me out the door and slammed it. The referee couldn’t control his emotions. The team showed character, scored four goals, but one was disallowed. Aleks and Arnau were hit in the leg in their situations. There were grounds to award penalties – said coach Jacek Magiera right after the match about the referee’s controversial decisions.
The club announced it will lodge a protest with UEFA regarding the work of the referees during Thursday’s match.
