After 20 years of absence, the SlamBall was back last night on the antennas ofESPN. And as expected, the show and the highlights were there!
What a great idea to liven up our basketball fan summer than to bring back the SlamBall. Well ok, we are not on the same level of competitiveness as what we are used to watching, but it is still very nice to watch on an evening in July when we are starting to miss the NBA. And that’s good, the first season of SlamBall started last night in Las Vegas. Before getting to the (many) highlights of the night, a brief presentation of this noble discipline.

Born in 2000 in the United States, SlamBall is a collective sport that combines basketball, American football and gymnastics. The principle is simple, score baskets (until then, everything is fine) using trampolines installed under each basket. Each team is made up of four players: two attackers, a midfielder and a defender (the one who gets posterized every other action).
Because yes, the dunk is the main action of this discipline, and the baskets scored following a jump on the trampoline are worth 3 points, once morest 2 for the classic baskets. The matches are divided into four quarters of five minutes, with, as in basketball, a time limit per possession: 15 seconds.
You may have guessed it, contacts are commonplace in this sport where it is even allowed to stamp a player who does not have the ball. Only tackles in the air are prohibited. Players are equipped accordingly to protect themselves from accidents… which does not prevent the SlamBall from being a real highlights machine. We let you marvel at the best actions of the evening.

To speak a bit regarding competition, eight teams will compete throughout the summer in this first season of SlamBall. At the end of the 57 matches played, the top four ranked teams will qualify for the Playoffs, which will take place from August 15-17. Enough to warm up before the Basketball World Cup which will start a week later!
But let’s not go too fast, the SlamBall is still in the recovery phase and nothing says that he will succeed in settling on the sports scene over time. The discipline has all summer to seduce fans and convince investors and broadcasters. In any case, you will have to wait a bit to watch SlamBall from France, since it is currently only broadcast on the American channel. ESPN.
We will therefore be satisfied with the highlights for the moment, and that’s already not bad!
