Sunday evening was a special day for Betard Sparta Wrocław. Not only because of the final against Orlen Oil Motor Lublin, but above all because of Tai Woffinden’s farewell. Fans from the capital of Lower Silesia prepared a unique setting, and president Andrzej Rusko presented the three-time world champion with a special gift. The Briton was moved to thank the fans of 13 amazing seasons. Right after the competition, he also did not hide his gratitude for the entire Wrocław community.
You are saying goodbye to Betard Sparta Wrocław after 13 seasons. What can you say about tonight? The fans must have done their job…
It was fantastic. I know I have a lot of fans here, but today they prepared something special for me. I felt really special. I’m very grateful and appreciative of that.
You could never complain about the support of the fans. Has Wrocław become a second home for you?
Yes it was. These people here are amazing to me. When the stadium was rebuilt, there was actually a full crowd watching every match. Over the years, we have all worked very hard for the good of the club. There are more and more sponsors who are also with the team through good and bad. I grew with Sparta. I was becoming a better and better player, and the club fights for medals every year. It was beautiful to be a part of it all.
Would you say this is the most difficult moment in your career?
Definitely. It’s a very emotional moment. I was at the market recently. I went to “my” Starbucks and looked at all these places. I did it every year, week after week. This brought me lots of memories. I love this city, I love this club. I am very grateful.
Will winning the PGE Ekstraliga 2021 remain your best memory?
Of course. I already said in an earlier interview that for me it was like winning the first individual world championship. It was special. I’m still hungry though. I want to win, I love this sport and I want to experience more beautiful moments.

President Andrzej Rusko gave you a special farewell gift. The “key” to Sparta Wrocław…
A unique gift. But Andrzej didn’t have to give it to me, I know that the door is always open for me here. I have a great relationship with Krysia and Andrzej. It was a very emotional decision. I feel like I need a change for my career, for my head. What’s happening today doesn’t mean I’ll never come back here.
