The meanwhile quite long history of the supposed pirate epic Skull & Bones apparently remains quite a catastrophe. Now the meanwhile third creative director has fallen victim to the whole thing and has to resign.
After the success of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, Skull & Bones was supposed to take up the pirate theme and deepen it with many playful options – but so far nothing has come of it. The title has been struggling with an insane number of problems since it was announced, has been fundamentally rebuilt several times and has also been moved in the process.
The first quarter of 2024 is currently the release period – and this should continue to be adhered to, although there is no good news regarding the title once more. Reason: In the meantime, the third creative director at the head of the responsible development team has had to resign and is making it available for the next challenge.
How my city reported, the feedback on the recent beta was probably rather modest, maybe also a reason why Elisabeth Pellen vacated the post as creative director? Pellen has been part of the development team since 2018 but has since left Singapore, according to the Ubisoft report, and is now working elsewhere at the company’s Paris headquarters. The whole process was apparently initiated in the light of major restructuring, following all Ubisoft confirmed in July that it had stopped four game projects altogether.
It is not known who will replace Pellen, and it certainly remains to be seen whether the current release period will remain the same this time. Doubts are certainly appropriate given the history of the game so far.
Skull & Bones is slated to release for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S…maybe…eventually.
