Skrekas to be precise: We impose fines on those who make a profit

About the government’s moves once morest punctuality, he spoke, among other things, the Minister of Development, Kostas Skrekas, emphasizing characteristically how “the fines and measures we have taken have contributed as a percentage to taming and containing inflation”.

“It certainly proves that accuracy continues to be the number one problem that concerns Greek households and for this reason we are continuing with new measures so as to perhaps correct chronic pathologies that dominate the Greek market and Greek trade”, he said, speaking to MEGA.

Accuracy: “Golden” fruits and olive oil leave the field – What producer prices show TABLE

“We have announced a package of four new measures that we believe will be quite effective and in certain categories of consumer products that are essential for families, we will see prices de-escalate. To show this to the world, we will announce the prices of these products that existed before the implementation of the measures and the prices following.”

The first measure concerns infant milk

“We are taking a regulatory measure and putting a ceiling on the profit margin of the companies that import, produce and distribute baby milk in Greece. Product accuracy is not only regarding profit but also regarding objective factors such as production and distribution costs. Greece has insularity, a terrain that is mountainous, a fragmented market”.

As the Minister of Development says:

“The second measure concerns unjustified price increases. We have taken a measure that prohibits suppliers and companies that will reprice their products, to proceed with consumer promotions inside supermarket stores. From the moment this was announced, we found that we have zero repricing, new.”

The price of olive oil is breaking all records

“Oil prices are basically determined by producer prices. Every day the market changes the price because there are traders and companies who, in order to cover their orders, are willing to buy even more expensive olive oil which is in short supply”.

“Olive oil is much more expensive compared to one and two years ago because it is in short supply as production in all olive producing countries is reduced. Reduced production, reduced supply, high demand equals rising prices. In Greece today you can find extra virgin olive oil from 10.75 euros. You can find both 15 and 20. Each company has a product to which it gives specific characteristics. We try to help the consumer choose quality and Greek products and buy them at the lowest price. At the moment there is a huge shortage of olive oil, so no one can say that we have surpluses”.

“We come and check the gross margin of these companies today and the gross profit margin they had in 2021 before the accuracy problem started, and if they have more profit, that is, they have taken advantage of the situation to make a profit, we come and impose fines.”

As Mr. Skrekas emphasizes:

“Accuracy is a big problem that concerns. We are absolutely strict and will not hesitate to impose fines on those who are found to have taken advantage of this very difficult time. If necessary, we will deploy other anti-precision weapons.”
