Skoda wants to cut the prices of electric vehicles

Skoda is currently working on an entry-level electric model. The latter should replace the Skoda Fabia.

“The Fabia, with its tariff position, will be replaced by a battery electric vehicle and we are currently working on it”. This is what was announced to Autocar Skoda boss Klaus Zellmer at the presentation of the Vision 7S SUV concept. This is how Skoda decided to accelerate and expand its electric transformation.

Focus on “all electric”

The Czech manufacturer will market three new 100% electric models by 2026. Objective? Increase the all-electric share of the brand’s vehicle sales in Europe. The ideal would be a 70% share of 100% electric models sold in Europe by 2030.

A mission that has a certain price, since an additional 5.6 billion euros will be invested in electromobility and another 700 million euros in digitalization over the next five years, indicates the manufacturer.

Un SUV XXL

According to the press release, the Skoda Concept Vision 7S, a 7-seater SUV with an “all-terrain” look, offers a preview of one of these three future models. The other two models are an urban vehicle and a compact SUV. Both are electric. This 7-seater version will be located below the urban model. It would have more than 600 km of autonomy, with an 89 kWh battery with a charging power pushed to 200 kW.

On the environmental side, the bumper, the floor of the car and the floor mats are made from recycled tires. The interior will also be made of sustainable materials, such as leather not derived from animals or even recycled polyester threads for the fabrics.

The ultimate goal of this project is to offer a vehicle with prices similar to the Fabia. But it is not an easy task. The biggest challenge right now is the cost [de fabrication] battery electric vehicles, especially when producing a car the size of the Fabia”, said Klaus Zellmer to our colleagues. Interested parties will therefore have to be patient.
