Some skin changes in the pregnancy are transient, others persist even following birth. The latter mainly belong to Stretch markswhich affects up to 90 percent of all Women appear. Although they fade over time, they remain visible as light stripes. On the other hand, the increased pigmentation of the areolas, armpits and genital area is only temporary. Scars and birthmarks can also darken, in some Women also draws the linea nigra as a dark line from the breastbone over the navel to the pubic bone. Also harmless, for many Women but distressing is the melasma. The brownish hyperpigmentation occurs primarily in the cheek, forehead, temple and upper lip area. Melasma often resolves within the first year following birth, but it persists in 10 to 30 percent of cases. In regarding 70 percent of those affected, melasma recurs in a subsequent pregnancy.
